Episode 5: Economist Turned Graffiti Artist

Hello Free Market Lovers. I am your host Jay and welcome to another episode of Anarcho-Inc the premier podcast talking business and technology in the truly free market.

On today’s podcast will be talking to Andrew “APSE” from Color Cartel.

I get into the who, what, where, why and how with Andrew.

But before we begin, let’s start the podcast off with a quote from Banksy “Graffiti is one of the few tools you have if you have almost nothing. And even if you don’t come up with a picture to cure world poverty you can make someone smile while they’re having a piss.”

The Color Cartel is a crew of two lovers – a pair of graffiti artists who found real freedom in painting together every day. They take inspiration from the urban environment of their pieces, and from each other’s playful, spunky attitudes.  They constantly push and critique each other to making each new piece impactful in its new home. They use the existing space to create new and powerful feelings of elegance, grit, individuality, peace, and explosiveness. Their work sprawls from NYC to Honolulu. They reside in Austin, TX.

Andrew, aka APSE, has been obsessed with letters, speed, and action sports all his life. This translates into a graffiti word style with bold lines and pigments. In university, he studied economics by day and graffitied by night– painting words and witty poetry on power boxes and abandoned buildings. Ultimately, this led him to Nikki, a sketch artist who helped him paint a graffiti mural one night in 2011.

Nikki caught on quickly, and they spent several evenings killing cans of paint on the roof of her building. Her attention to detail, good taste, and endless patience complimented APSE’s boldness and motion. Together they made a smashing team, calling themselves the Color Cartel. In 2012 they were married in Idaho, near the Grand Tetons.

Let’s end the podcast with our AnarchoAdvice and today’s AnarchoAdvice is to go check out the documentary Exit Through the Gift Shop.

Thanks for listening to another episode of AnarchoInc.
